Abraaj Capital KESC Bio-gas Project

KARACHI – The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Karachi Dairy Farmers Association that marks the completion of the testing phase of the ‘Bio-waste to Energy Project’ – a venture that aims to produce electricity from cattle manure produced from Landhi farms.

According to a press release issued on Thursday, the Dairy Farmers Association would supply between 3,500 and 4,000 tonnes of cattle waste on a daily basis to the KESC that would be used as feedstock to produce biogas required for electricity generation. This new landmark step will facilitate waste collection studies, project implementation and rollout of many socio-economic initiatives in the Landhi area.

In addition to producing green energy using renewable fuel gas, the project is a gateway for several other initiatives such as road and power infrastructure improvement, development of schools, clinics and water purification plants for farmers and enhancement of laboratory facilities for testing of cattle feed and milk.
